Mingyu Wu

Zhejiang, P.R. China, 1978.
Lives and works in Lisbon.

Mingyu Wu’s (Zhejiang, 1978) sculptural work is permeated with figurative and symbolic allusions that predate its contemporaneity. The sculptures persist in their immateriality and resonate occasional murmurs of images, griffins and ideas that transcend the acuity of their visual contours. Although deeply informed by a plastic and formal rationality, they declare their experimental influences in their constant affinity with processes of transformation, particularly with regard to their veiling and pigmentation. Wu works on the poetics of the time of bodies — their origin and their future — often positioning them in the limbo of transience (temporal, conceptual and formal).

The following exhibitions can be highlighted: “Dia sem Noite” (Blue Photography, Porto, Portugal), “História e Utopia” (Irmã Feia, Almada, Portugal), “Amplitude – Exposição coletiva de cerâmica” (Solar dos Zagallos, Almada, Portugal).
